Membership
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Active Membership.
The
Association must meet the following requirements to qualify as a
non-profit organization under Section 501 (c) (19) of the
Internal Revenue Code: (1) It must be organized in the United
States or any of its possessions. (2) At least 75% of its
members must be past or present members of the United States
Armed Forces. (3) At least 97.5% of its members must be (a)
present or former members of the United States Armed Forces; (b)
cadets (including only students in college or university ROTC
programs or at Armed Services academies); or (c) spouses,
widows, widowers, ancestors, or lineal descendants of
individuals referred to in (a) or (b).
Any person who has
served or is serving with the 10th Mountain Division, or with
the 87th Regimental Combat Team or with a unit attached to those
units; or with the 99th Infantry Battalion; or with the 10th
Infantry Division; or with the 10th Mountain Division (Light);
or with any other unit of the U.S. Army engaged in mountain
warfare training, including the Army National Guard Mountain
Warfare School, or the 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment
(Mountain), or the 38th Regimental Combat Team, and who has been
discharged from the service under any condition other than
dishonorable, shall be eligible for Active Membership and shall
become an Active Member upon payment of dues. Only WWII veterans
are entitled to Gold membership cards.
Annual dues are $20.00.
Special Membership.
The wives,
husbands, widows, widowers, ancestors, or siblings of persons
who are or were Active Members, or who are eligible for Active
Membership, or who would be eligible if they were alive, shall
be eligible for Special Membership. Special Members are dues
paying members who shall have all the privileges of Active
Members.
Annual dues are $20.00.
Descendant Membership.
Any person
who is a descendant or sibling of a soldier who served or is
serving honorably in the 10th Mountain Division or the 10th
Mountain Division (Light),
and who has
been elected a National Officer of the Corporation or a Chapter
officer, shall be eligible for Descendant Membership. A person
shall remain a Descendant Member only so long as he or she is a
National Officer or a Chapter officer. Descendant Members are
dues-paying members who have all the privileges of Active
Members. Descendant Members may also be members of 10th
Mountain Division Descendants, Inc.
Annual dues are $20.00.
Associate Membership.
Any person
not covered in Section 1 or 2 above and who, by reason of his or
her activities is deemed an asset to the Association and desires
membership, and whose application in writing is supported by
three Active Members of the Association and approved by the
National Executive Committee, may become an Associate Member.
Associate Members are dues paying members who have all the
privileges of Active Members except they shall not hold any of
the four elected offices on the National Executive Committee.
Annual dues are $20.00.
Honorary Membership.
Any person,
whether a military person or otherwise, who because of intimate
association with, extreme interest in, loyalty to, or unusual
support of the 10th Mountain Division or this Association
meriting distinguished recognition, shall be eligible for
Honorary Membership; provided that, the aggregate number of
Honorary Members, together with the Descendant Members described
above, shall, at no time, exceed 2.5% of all members of the
Corporation. Such person may be nominated by either a Chapter
or a National Officer to the Executive Committee, which will
take final action on the nomination. The sponsoring Chapter or
the National Executive Committee, if the individual is nominated
by a National Officer, will provide funds for Life Membership
for the nominee as a condition for the Honorary Membership.
Honorary Members shall enjoy all the privileges of Active
Membership except that Honorary Members may not vote nor hold
any office in the Association. Honorary Members do not pay
annual dues.
Life Membership.
Any dues
paying member from Sections 1, 2 or 4 of these Bylaws may become
a Life Member by the one sum payment to the National
Association's Life Membership Fund. Upon the death of an Active
Member who is a Life Member, the Life Membership of such Member
will automatically be transferred to the surviving spouse of
such Member, subject to the membership limitations of Section 2.
The amount of dues required for Life Membership will be
established by the Executive Committee.
Life Membership dues are $110.00
The "Honorary
Members" in Section 5 of these Bylaws become Life Members when
their membership is approved and the required funds have been
paid. The Life Membership is not transferred to the surviving
spouse.
FRIEND of the ASSOCIATION.
Any person who does
not fit into the above mentioned classes, but whom wishes to
support the activities of the Association shall be eligible for
restricted membership and shall become a restricted member upon
payment of dues. This class of membership does not carry voting
or officer privileges, but does offer participation in
Association activities, and inclusion in Association offers and
mailings.
Annual dues are $20.00.
Corporate or
Business Sponsorship: Any corporation, business or organization
who supports the activities of the Association shall be eligible
for membership.
Annual dues are $250.00
