President's Message

The National Association of the 10th Mountain Division, Inc. was founded in 1971 by a handful of World War II 10th Mountain combat veterans.  Its purpose is to foster friendships among former and current members, and descendants of the original 10th Mountain Division, 10th Mountain Division (Light), and Vermont's National Guard's Mountain Battalion; assist members, widows, and orphans; promote interest in winter sports and mountaineering among members; and encourage mountain and winter warfare training.

As many members of the original 10th Mountain Division have passed, our Descendants affiliate organization has stepped forward to help preserve the legacy of the original10th Mountain Division and enable the National Association to transition to a membership base weighted by current and former members of the 10th Mountain Division (Light).  The modern Division, like its predecessor, has a rich history, particularly given this past decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The National Association's chapters and regions have traditionally been geographically organized.  Given today's advances in internet communications and social media, a number of former Soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division (Light) have taken the initiative to form chapters based on unit affiliation.  This makes a lot of sense to me and I am excited to promote these initiatives.  I encourage anyone interested in organizing a unit-based chapter to contact me.

We have a proud heritage to sustain and I look forward to working with current and prospective members, and the Descendants to keep the fire alive.

Climb to Glory,

Galen Jackman
Association President
